Using Condenser Tonnage

If you have an underground electric cable system, or if you are in the oil and gas industry, you will know that by using condenser tonnage (or coil boxes) you can actually save a significant amount of money. When you are using the proper tonnage, the parts do not get hot as they would with other forms of metal. Not only do you not have to worry about your electrical wires getting hot but you also do not have to worry about dirt and dust collecting in the coils as well. Also, since most coils are fitted to the inside of the steel box, there is no need for wire insulation, thus, eliminating costly mistakes.

The most important aspect when it comes to using condenser tonnage is to consider how the heat is going to be transferred from the boxes to the other equipment in your heating system. As you can see in the following example, you will be able to easily figure out whether or not the box is working correctly by running a wire to the right end of the box, or to the end of the coil on the opposite side of the box. If the metal box is working properly, then the wire will not get hot. On the other hand, if the wire is getting warm because the heating system is not working properly, then the heating system is probably not working properly either. You should always run your own measurements before using your heating system so that you can run the right cable through the heating system. Once you know exactly how the cable will work with your system, you will know exactly what to do and where to go.

In order to determine the proper capacity of the box, you should first make sure that the inside of the box is clean and dry. It is also important to check the dimensions of the coils. After checking for these items, you can determine the proper tonnage required. It is important to remember that the steel box will work better if it is painted. This can be done by painting it with rustoleum paint or by adding decals or stickers. After all of these steps have been taken care of, you can remove the dirt and dust that have accumulated over time. Most of the condenser tonnage boxes will have a snap-out feature so that the dirt and dust can be easily removed.
